Notes From Province Walkthrough

Graveyard

The graveyard behind Province Town. Something may be lurking around here at night.

Treasure Chests: 4 (2 outside, 2 inside the catacombs)

1: Lost Coin (Key Item; Hand over to Baxter for rewards)
2: Tombstone (Ground Furniture), 500G, Grave Tender’s Gloves (Arms Equipment; +1 PDEF and MDEF, Resist Disease)
3: Phoenix Feather (Consumable; Revives a fallen ally with 50% HP)
4: 25G

Encounter with Death

Enter the graveyard at night and talk to Death, who is standing in front of a large tombstone. Four separate battles will trigger every time you talk to him after beating the previous one.

In the first battle there will be four zombies that can revive each other, as well as inflict Disease. Try to defeat them all at once, and use items like the Sewage Pie and the Rat Man’s Cape to prevent the Disease status.

The second battle is the same, but with a Zombie Commander added into the team. The Zombie Commander inflicts the Undead Flesh status, which turns healing into damage and can’t be cured, and it can heal the other zombies, so try to take it out quickly. After winning this battle, they will drop a Zombie Soul (Card) and a Zombie Flesh (Accessory; Grants a skill that inflicts Undead Flesh on an enemy).

In the third battle, there will be six zombies plus The Prophet. The Prophet is immune to all damage except explosion damage. It will apply the Extinction status on the zombies and your party members. Each time anyone dies with the status applied, everyone else will take 250 explosion damage. Kyme, Ezekiel, and Emith are ideal for this battle. Have Kyme equipped with a large shield and use Perfect Defense on either Ezekiel or Emith, then have the other two use Smite/Entangling Roots. The result should be a chain explosion of Extinctions, and this will likely defeat any party members who don’t have Invincible applied, adding to the chain of explosions. Another possible strategy is to defeat one zombie at a time while healing off the damage every turn. If there are no zombies left, The Prophet will use up a turn to bring them all back, so take this opportunity to revive and recover MP, then repeat the chain explosions again. The Prophet will drop a Bone (Key Item; Give to the Province Town’s dog) and a Mark of the Prophet (Accessory; Will survive with 1 HP after taking a lethal hit once per battle).

In the final battle, Death himself will fight you. Along with the generally high difficulty, both healing and reviving via Phoenix Feathers are ineffective for this battle, so try to take him down quickly. You’ll want to tackle this battle with a high-leveled and well-geared party. After defeating Death, he will drop Reaper’s Cloak (Robe; +12 PDEF, +25 MDEF, first attack inflicts Poison) and Putrid Flesh (Accessory; Starts every battle with Undead Flesh, and has a 50% chance to inflict Disease to the attacker).

The Great Hunt (5)

Upon entering the lower area of the catacombs, a cutscene will trigger, followed by a battle with a Lich. The Lich casts dark magic, both single and multi target, and his charge skill will instantly defeat a party member and summon a Bony Creeper to his side. The Lich drops a Dark Altar (Ground Furniture) and a Lich’s Headdress (Head Equipment; +3 MATK, +13 MDEF, +3 COND) when defeated. Afterwards, go back to Zephyre, the Harp’s Sanctuary, and ask the matriarchs where the Uktena can be found.
